2D Concept Art
2D concept art is the first drawings of a game’s world, characters, or objects. It’s not the final picture you see when you play, but more like the blueprint or sketch that shows what things should look like.
In a studio, 2D concept artists:
-
Draw the characters (heroes, villains, monsters) so the team knows their style.
-
Imagine the environments (spooky forests, cozy villages, or space stations).
-
Design items (swords, spaceships, treasure chests).
-
Make lots of versions to see which looks coolest.
-
Give these drawings to 3D artists, animators, or programmers so they can turn them into the actual game.
So, 2D concept artists are the game’s illustrators or dreamers—they draw the first pictures so everyone else knows what the game world should feel like before it’s built.
